I'm planning on losing weight. What do I do about loose skin?

I've watched the Biggest Loser for about three years. I'm planning on losing about 115 pounds in 2007, and I'm wondering what I can do to minimize loose skin.

Some of the contestants on the show lost WAY more than that, and they seem to have no loose skin!

I've hired a trainer who promises to exhaust me, but I keep hearing over and over again that I'll have to have plastic surgery for the skin. That's so expensive, not to mention painful.

Does anybody know a way to minimize the skin probelm after weight loss?

It depends on how young you are, but you can do a lot with massage. Explain the situation to a good professional masseuse, and get a massage at least once a week. Your skin will never get as taut as if you have never been heavy, but you will probably decide it's not worth it to have surgery to take up the additional slack. Remember that being a little soft to the touch is not a bad thing.
Reply:You can only minimize it with excessive. Hopefully you are still young and the elasticity in your skin is good. Other than that with such a big weight loss you can expect to have alot of loose skin. Be sure to excessive during your weight loss. Also as a last resort you might have to have surgery to remove you excess skin depending on how severe your situation is. Good luck.
Reply:Weight training in addition to your diet program should do the trick.
Reply:Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
Reply:I actually just blogged about this very subject last week! How *do* they not get loose skin? I think it's because they are exercising heavily. The people I know who have lost a lot of weight fairly rapidly have done it through weight loss surgery and not through exercise and they are plagued by skin flaps.

I've heard that drinking A LOT of water helps, as it keeps your skin supple. A friend of a friend lost weight through intense exercise and supposedly had no loose skin (I never met him; can't verify this) and he drank LOTS of water.

Your age is a factor too, and how long you've been fat. Older people, and those who've been very overweight for a very long time haven't got as much elasticity in their skin.

I know that not a lot can be done about loose arm skin except surgery. I've already got it so it's unlikely that losing weight will shrink my arms that much.

Why don't you try posting on the message board for the show? Maybe one of the contestants or trainers will have some tips for you.

Good luck on your goal!
